We have included some helpful tips below so you will not have to stress out about how to proceed. Red Front Door:

In Feng Shui, red is the color of the south.  Therefore, if your home faces south, you may attract luck and prosperity if you were to paint your front door red.

SELECTING PAINT COLORS FOR THE FRONT DOOR:

Considering paint colors for the front door is never an easy task.  Often times people become so overwhelmed they decide to just stick with what they have as they find the decision and all of the available options becoming too stressful. I thought I would share my experience as to how I arrived at the best paint color for the front door at my rental property. Several years ago I purchased a rental home.  I questioned whether I should buy it because the floors were tiled in white with a dark teal grout.  This is not a combination I would have chosen.  But, the tile was there and it was in like-new condition, so there was really no way to justify replacing it. It was a cute house, it was on a corner lot, in a good neighborhood, had a nice floor plan and a nice back yard.  Since I was not going to be living in the home, I decided I should probably not allow the white tile or the dark teal grout to keep me from buying the property.

COMING UP WITH SOLUTIONS:

We found a carpet that matched the grout color and bought just enough to make a large rug for the master bedroom.  Then I found a light grey carpet for the living room and the dining room.  We purchased the carpet required and had it cut and bound to the sizes needed for these three rooms.  The soft grey carpet, along with a nice subdued grey paint on the walls, went a long way toward creating a softer look. I purchased this house with the intention of using it as a vacation rental.  After ordering the furniture, I shopped around for home decor accessories in shades of teal, grey, white, and silver. In an effort to bring it all together, in considering paint colors for the front door I decided it should probably be something in the teal family.  The teal front door really made the house pop!  All of the neighbors loved it. Evidently, I inspired a few of the neighbors to make some upgrades to their homes as well.  One of them painted their front door a beautiful dark brown cherry color.  It was extremely attractive and looked like a very expensive cherry wood door. Traditional Mahogany Front Door:

Traditional darker wood colors such as Mahogany, Cherry, and Walnut never go out of style. Solid hardwood doors are quite expensive, so a lot of people choose to paint their doors in these colors. From a distance, it might look like a $4000 door, rather than a relatively inexpensive door.

Brown Front Door:

You can really never go wrong considering brown among the paint colors for the front door. Brown is another of those nice, deep, rich, very classic colors, which adds an air of sophistication.

Green Front Door:

I like the color green they used on this door. It has a very calming feel to it. With the little pop of red in the geraniums to tie in with the red bricks, this is perfect.

Dark Green Front Door:

I like the color of this door. However, there are other things I would definitely address. The doll house sized light fixture has got to go, and also the urns could be a bit larger.

Now that you have a few ideas, narrow your focus by checking out the Sherwin-Williams color wall. They have a great online tool so you can eliminate as well as find a lot more front door color ideas. Once you have selected the best paint color for your front door and you are ready to get started on your project, here are some tips:

PAINTING YOUR FRONT DOOR:

First of all, be sure to consult your paint store as to the best type of paint to use, depending on whether your door is made of wood, metal, or fiberglass. The most widely used door materials in residential construction are wood and fiberglass.
  • Remove any decorative door hardware, such as mail slots, door knockers, and peep-holes. Then, mask off door handles, hinges, deadbolt locks, and any windows.
  • Take your paint brush and paint the recessed areas around the flat panels. Next, cut in carefully around the windows. If you do get some paint on the windows you can always remove it with a razor blade after it has dried.
  • Take your paint roller and do all the flat areas. Be sure to smooth out any paint drips that may have run down the door as you were doing the windows and around the flat panels.
Happy Painting!
